Selectively Disable Usb Storage devices

To disable all usb storage devices including the currently working ones :-

The registry key tells the UsbStor driver not to load on boot:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
Start = 4  – Disable usb storage devices
Start = 3  – Enable usb storage devices
&
1) Goto c:\windows\inf
2) Rename UsbStor.inf to UsbStor.inf.bak & UsbStor.pnf to UsbStor.pnf.bak

Now windows can no longer load drivers for usb storage devices. All usb storage devices including the currently working ones will be disabled.

To disable only selected usb storage devices  (currently working ones will continue to work) :-

Do not edit the registry (in registry it should be Start = 3 or enabled)
&
1) Goto c:\windows\inf
2) Rename UsbStor.inf to UsbStor.inf.bak & UsbStor.pnf to UsbStor.pnf.bak

Now windows can no longer load new drivers for usb storage.  Already loaded drivers will continue to work and those storage devices will continue to work.

Note:

1) A restart is required for applying the settings.
2) To enable rename
UsbStor.inf.bak &  UsbStor.pnf.bak back to UsbStor.inf  & UsbStor.pnf & change the registry value to Start = 3
3) To remove an already loaded device driver so that it wont load next time if usbstor files are removed  then

i) Safely remove the usb drive.
ii) Goto device manager & look for usb mass storage device with exclamation mark  as shown below

iii) Right click usb mass storage device with exclamation mark and uninstall , then already loaded driver is also removed
